Mobile Conjunctivitis Care
Conjunctivitis (often referred to as “pink eye”) is a common eye condition that affects people of all ages. This annoying condition leads to redness, irritation, discharge, and discomfort. Pink eye is generally mild, but it is also quite contagious and can spread quickly.
For most people, conjunctivitis is simply an annoyance that goes away. For more vulnerable populations, though, this ailment can become pretty serious. Seniors and patients with compromised immune systems may actually be at greater risk if the issue is prolonged and can lead to serious complications.
At Heritage Wound Care, we provide mobile care for patients suffering from conjunctivitis. We are able to provide evaluation and treatment services wherever the patient is, whether it be at home, a nursing center, a rehab center, or anywhere else. Our ability to provide mobile treatment reduces the barriers to care some patients are met with, allowing them to get the care they need when they need it.
Why Mobile Conjunctivitis Care Matters
For some patients, traveling to a clinic for eye treatment may be anywhere from impractical to nearly impossible. This can be particularly the case for those living in a nursing home or rehab center and those who are homebound. Delaying treatment due to the inconvenience of traveling to a treatment center can lead to the condition worsening over time, and the risk of infecting others rising.
Mobile conjunctivitis care allows patients who have difficulty with travel to receive proper care for their pink eye, stopping the progression of the ailment and lowering the risk of infection.
Our Approach to Conjunctivitis Management
If a patient is suffering from eye redness, discharge, or discomfort, we send our team to assess the issue and determine what is leading to these symptoms. If conjunctivitis is the cause, we’ll determine whether it is viral, bacterial, or allergic in nature. If needed, we coordinate with facility staff or laboratories to process cultures and determine what is causing the symptoms. Once the diagnosis is made, we put together a treatment plan, which may include prescription eye drops, supportive care (such as artificial tears), and education on better hygiene practices that will reduce the chances of transmission.
Once the treatment plan is put in place, we monitor patients and provide weekly follow-ups (or even more frequently if needed). We also educate facility staff, caregivers, and/or family on the cause of the condition and how to avoid spread and re-infection. Proper education does a lot in preventing pink eye from occurring again in the future.
Collaboration Across Care Settings
At Heritage Wound Care, we pride ourselves on our ability to collaborate with other healthcare providers to avoid duplicating services and to ensure ongoing care is seamless. For nursing homes and rehab facilities, we communicate with staff to ensure infection-control guidelines are provided and adhered to. For our at-home patients, we speak with caregivers and coordinate services, along with answering questions. We also work with hospitals and health centers to help with post-procedure care.
We believe that effective communication and collaboration are key components of proper care, and working closely with providers, teams, and caregivers is extremely important when it comes to providing patient-centered care.

Who Benefits Most from Mobile Conjunctivitis Care?
While conjunctivitis can affect anyone, mobile care is particularly helpful for the following patients:
- Seniors and those living in nursing homes
- Patients benefitting from assisted living
- Patients with limited mobility who cannot easily travel for treatment
- Immunocompromised patients who face a higher risk of complications
- Patients recovering from surgery, especially eye-related procedures
- Residents of group-living facilities (where infections can spread quickly)
We provide timely, comprehensive services for our patients where and when it is needed.
Preventing Hospitalizations and Complications
It’s very rare for conjunctivitis to lead to hospitalization. With that said, vulnerable patients with untreated infections may suffer from corneal issues or spread to the surrounding tissue. Early mobile intervention helps to prevent these complications.
The team at Heritage Wound Care offers prompt treatment for patients, which helps to prevent the escalation of issues such as pink eye. By catching conjunctivitis early, we are able to provide proper treatment that allows a patient to avoid a costly trip to the hospital.
Support for Patients and Families
Any kind of ailment can make vulnerable patients and their families worried. As this is the case, we prioritize comfort, compassion, and communication. By educating patients and their families about conjunctivitis, including what causes it and treatment options, we lower levels of anxiety. We also provide information to help avoid the spread of pink eye in the future.
Our team will do our best to ensure you are comfortable and well-supported throughout your conjunctivitis treatment.
