Mobile Eye Infection Care
Eye infections can range from a mild irritation to a serious medical condition that can threaten your vision (and your overall health). If you notice redness, swelling, pain, and/or discharge, you shouldn’t ignore it. This is especially so for more vulnerable patients, like seniors, those who are immunocompromised, and people recovering from surgery. Without timely treatment, even a mild eye infection can escalate and lead to long-term complications like corneal damage and systemic infection—in turn landing you in the hospital.
Heritage Wound Care provides outstanding mobile eye infection management services for patients who are homebound or otherwise unable to visit a care center. We provide an evaluation bedside (or wherever else you are comfortable) and provide eye infection care. This includes coordinating testing, initiating treatment, and providing any necessary follow-ups.
It is our goal to ensure patients get the care they need, where and when they need it.
Why Mobile Eye Infection Care Matters
Eye infections can be caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites. While some eye infections are relatively minor, others can progress quickly and may require immediate medical attention. This can be difficult to receive for those with mobility challenges, visual impairment, or chronic illness, as getting to a treatment facility can be a major challenge. In turn, this can lead to the condition worsening over time. Given enough time, it may even lead to permanent vision loss.
Mobile eye infection care provided by the team at Heritage Wound Care allows for immediate treatment from the comfort of the patient’s own home, nursing facility, or rehab center. This immediate care helps to reduce complications, improve comfort, and provide the patient and their loved ones with peace of mind.
Our Approach to Eye Infection Management
Our approach to eye infection management begins with a thorough, on-site evaluation. We check for symptoms such as redness, discharge, blurred vision, and sensitivity to light. We also review the patient’s medical history, current symptoms, and risk factors that include immune status, diabetes, and/or recent surgical procedures. If diagnostic testing is needed, we coordinate with labs or partner facilities to confirm the cause of the condition. Cultures or swabs may be collected to distinguish between bacterial, viral, or fungal infections. Once we’ve identified the source of the problem, we begin treatment as soon as possible.
Treatment plans for eye infections may include prescription eye drops, oral medication, and/or supportive therapies. Once treatment has started, we follow up and keep a close eye on the progression of the treatment. This may include weekly visits (or more if needed).
To avoid re-infection, we provide education for patients, caregivers, and staff in regard to what led to the infection and how it can be avoided in the future.
Collaborative Care Across Settings
At Heritage Wound Care, we understand how important collaborative care is. That’s why we work closely with other healthcare providers (such as primary care) to ensure there is no duplication and that there is a proper continuation of care. We also support staff in nursing homes and rehab centers to control any outbreaks and provide the appropriate care for the patient.
For post-surgical patients, we work with hospitals in order to provide the patient with continuous care from their home or other living environment. By working with hospitals, we are better able to ensure ongoing recovery and avoid readmission.
Our collaborative approach allows us to provide comprehensive, efficient, and effective care without disrupting existing relationships between providers and their patients.

Who Benefits Most from Mobile Eye Infection Care
While eye infections can affect anyone, mobile eye infection care is most beneficial for:
- Seniors living in nursing homes or assisted living facilities
- Patients recovering from surgery, especially eye or facial procedures
- Individuals with diabetes, weakened immune systems, or chronic illness
- Patients with limited mobility or vision impairment that makes travel difficult
- Residents in group-living environments where infections can spread quickly
Preventing Hospitalizations and Complications
If not treated properly, eye infections can escalate rather quickly. This, in turn, can lead to abscesses, corneal scarring, and/or systemic spread of bacteria. If care is delayed, there is a good chance it will lead to the need for hospitalization.
Heritage Wound Care provides timely, mobile care that allows patients to receive the care they need, when they need it. This often prevents the need for hospitalization and more advanced care. Our proactive approach helps to prevent higher costs of care and improve patient outcomes.
Support for Patients and Families
Eye infections can be pretty painful and even scary, as the vision of the patient is affected. This can lead to anxiety not only in the patient but also in the loved ones of the patient.
We provide patients with compassionate care, and we prioritize comfort and education. We ensure patients and their families are aware of what is happening each step of the way, and we provide them with the reassurance they need to feel comfortable with our treatments. This helps to reduce stress and empower our patients.
